Fun Fact: Did you know that Tokyo has a replica of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty?
On the first day in Tokyo we knew that we’d have some jetlag, so decided we would sleep in to help get us back on track. WRONG, the sunrise was at 4am, so we decided to find the closest breakfast to Tokyo Tower since that was first on the agenda. We went to the Prince Park Hotel and enjoyed the SkyBar Buffet and had some incredible views of Tokyo Tower. Jessa, enjoyed this buffet because it was a combination of Western and Traditional cuisine.
Now that we had a great start, we walked over to Tokyo Tower. Did you know the Tokyo Tower was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and is actually taller and lighter than the Eiffel Tower? I decided to burn off some energy and take the stairs up. Who wouldn’t want to take the stairs up?
Next up was a surprise. Joypolis. It’s an indoor virtual reality amusement park with a variety of rides some intense some tame. After the first Transformers ride that jolted us around Jessa was ready to be done. Then we did the virtual reality laser tag and our team got crushed. We did a virtual reality roller coaster that has you strapped in like you’re going on a normal coaster and then moves you as if you’re hangliding. I finished up with a racing ride that spun me 360 degrees over 5 times. After that, I was very ready to be done.
We decided to try conveyor belt sushi. Except it was scary sushi, squid… eeel… no califronia rolls. We got out of there so fast! King soopers still has the best sushi in my opinion!
After taking a 3 hour nap that was supposed to be 30 mins 🙄😒 we made our way to the famous anime town known as Akihabara. The closest thing either of us know about anime is SpongeBob if that counts. Or perhaps Ed Edd n Eddy? Our first stop was the massive electronics shopping mall Yodobashi Akiba. Imagine if you combined a Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Toysrus, and IKEA in 8 floors. I assumed we would check it out for 20 mins and see the first or second floor. I could not have been more wrong. Jessa wanted to start on the top floor and cover each floor ðŸ˜
We saw everything ranging from unicycles to mechanical keyboards to stationary. However, the craziest item we found was an 88 inch 8k TV that had not even been released in America. THIS TV COST $24,000. YEP MORE THAN A 2018 RAV4. My question is once you buy it how do you get it down the elevator and to your apartment and where would it even fit. NOTHING MADE SENSE.
We made our way over to the watch section and found an amazing selection of watches ranging from entry level to high end Omega and Longines watches (that’s the watch I am wearing in the photo)
We decided to head back. However, on our way back to the subway Jessa wanted to win a French Fry Keychain for her sister. She tried and said nope this is too hard. So I gave it the good ole college try and got two French fries in one go. I was on a roll. I ended up winning 4 crane games and was hooked!
Our final surprise was the subway station at 10:30pm. It was super crowded and felt like rush hour. This city truly never sleeps! We were out 2 hours past our bedtime and definitely needed our beauty sleep!
