When you think of Christmas, the sounds of snow crunching and the smell of firewood burning engulfs your senses. How about the sounds of palm trees swaying or the sight of Andrei wearing a snorkel mask with goofy flippers. Yep, we spent our Christmas in Maui.
Now this wasn’t only a vacation we had work to do, figure out how to do a wedding in Hawaii. Planning a wedding is a lot of work, so we hired a wedding planner. His name was stitch (yes that blue alien with 4 legs that gets into mischief). He picked out our wedding colors very quickly… blue blue and more blue. He spent quite a bit of time by the pool 😒
We stayed in Kaanapali at the Westin Resort next to Whaler’s Village. As soon as you stepped into the resort the smell was incredible. They use some sort of scent to make the resort smell amazing and indescribable. The guest relations team was very kind and welcoming.
We checked out our initial idea of a Hawaiin wedding, on the beach and a food truck reception. We quickly realized this was not going to be a good option as the beach we had selected was steep and had lots of stairs and the food trucks provided very little shade. We were back to square one but very thankful we came in person to check it out for ourselves.
We had some fun while in Maui which included helicopter rides with no doors, kayaking with whales, and night time snorkeling. We also spent a lot of time sampling different restaurants to make sure the food was good which it was.
Overall, Maui was a huge success. We realized we would need to go back to the drawing board once we got back to Denver, but had some great ideas on what we wanted our special day to look like. Our advice… if you want to do a destination wedding make sure you visit it first. Wedding Planning can be fun!
